If you use YouTube without a subscription, you see ads. They are removed for paying subscribers. However, some people want the ad-free experience without the downside of being bombarded by ads before, during and after videos. Ad blockers are used by some people to hide the ads YouTube shows. YouTube is fighting back and with ad blocking detection and disabling playback of videos if one is detected.

Do you use an ad blocker with YouTube? I don’t. Yes, the ads are annoying, but not as annoying as the subscription fee, which has just been raised to $13.99 or $18.99 if you subscribe through the Apple App Store on an Apple device.

I haven’t tried this myself, but it sounds like an interesting way to reduce the ads shown by YouTube without using an ad blocker.

What you do is use a VPN, which a lot of people already have, to connect to a VPN server in a country that Google has little interest in advertising to. Like Finland. Apparently, YouTube viewers in Finland see far fewer ads because it’s not a significant market for the mostly US advertisers. It’s worth a try!

Do you block ads on YouTube or do you subscribe to avoid them?
