How is this even possible? Two students got their hands on fake iPhones, sent them to Apple to be repaired and Apple replaced them with real iPhones, which the students then sold.

How can Apple be fooled by fake iPhones? Surely a faulty iPhone would be looked at by someone with at least a little bit of technical knowledge. Surely they could spot a fake?

Perhaps the phones would not boot up, so Apple just replaced them.

It is a bizarre scam that shouldn’t be possible, but here’s the full story https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/apr/08/students-fake-iphones-scheme-apple-cheated
