Remember the “I’m a Mac/ I’m a PC” ads from Apple? They are were shown around 10 years ago and starred a ‘typical’ Mac user and a ‘typical’ PC user. Apparently 300 of them were filmed! Here is an interview with Justin Long about those ads he starred in.
I never liked them and I doubt they convinced many PC users to switch to Mac. They portrayed PC users as dumb, stupid, boring, lacking in ideas and initiative. If you were a PC user, you were probably insulted by those ads and maybe actually put off buying a Mac. If you are trying to sell something, you don’t insult a potential customer and tell them they are stupid.
Those ads were not aimed at converting PC users to Mac users, they were to convince Mac users that they were better than other people and that they had made the right decision to buy a Mac.
